The Sony headset has two 4K OLED screens and is aimed at professional use where interacting with virtual objects offers added value.

Sony is announcing a new headset at CES 2024 that will allow users to sculpt and manipulate 3D models. However, according to Sony, we are not talking about VR glasses, but rather a system for “creating spatial content”. Someone has looked too closely at the marketing of the Apple Vision Pro…

The headset is powered by the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2. There is a 4K OLED screen per eye, comparable to the PlayStation VR glasses that the brand already has in stores today.

According to Sony, the headset is aimed at professionals “who want to create projects by placing virtual objects in real physical spaces.” It can already be integrated into the NX Immersive Designer software, a product from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. Shortly before the market launch, Sony would like to announce further collaborations with professional players in the industrial design segment.

The headset is supported by two controllers: a ring and a more traditional VR controller in the form of a pointer.

According to Sony, the headset will be released this year. The manufacturer has not yet announced a price. In the meantime, you can take a look at Apple putting the Vision Pro on sale starting February 2nd, or the Meta Quest 3.
