Maximum resistance in a smartphone is back in the Samsung catalog: sharing space with the brand new Galaxy S23 and just a few days before the Samsung Galaxy S24 sees the light, Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 sheds its shell to stand out from the crowd thanks to its hardness. And without losing its extravagant features, Samsung’s new rugged handset doesn’t have a bad spec sheet.
It doesn’t make you angry if your mobile phone slips from your hand and falls to the ground. Or we fall into the water and discover that the protection against the elements is not as good as it should be: To prevent disasters, most of us need an ultra-durable mobile phone.. These don’t have to be crude and low-end phones either, as Samsung has a very good credentials in the XCover family. This family has just been renewed.

Facing a rugged mobile phone usually requires holding a large amount of hard plastic that is heavy and has an exterior design that resembles a throwing gun more than a phone. And Samsung maintains these facilities without losing sight of a certain appeal in the exterior: Samsung XCover 7 looks pretty similar to its non-ultra-rugged siblings; always maintains a great weight and materials designed to last.
Beneath the toughened Corning Gorilla Glass Victus glass surface is a 6.6-inch LCD panel that eliminates the high refresh rate of other phones without losing Full HD+ resolution. It looks like a “notch” has been cut at the top of this panel, which is already a bit old: It is drop shaped. Beneath that cutout lies a timid 5-megapixel front camera, but it’s not like the Samsung XCover 7 is intent on taking good selfies. This isn’t your audience either.
We don’t know how the phone will perform in terms of processing: Samsung only has a version of the XCover 7. Octa-core SoC manufactured at 6 nm. It includes 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, offers expansion via micro SD Card (up to 1TB) and has dual SIMs, one of which is an eSIM.
If we have already said that the phone’s purpose is not selfies, it is not because it relies on the versatility of the rear camera: the Samsung XCover 7 offers a single camera with a 50-megapixel sensor. The aperture is bright, at least on paper: f/1.8.
Since resistance is its main raison d’être, the phone has IP68 and military certification (MIL-810H). Moreover, 4,050 mAh battery is replaceable: You do not need to take your mobile phone to a technical service to renew its battery. It offers a programmable XCover Key button and has POGO connectors to charge the phone without plugging in the USB C connector, which is 2.0.
Offered and with an approximate launch date: Samsung’s most durable mobile phone will be available in the usual markets this January. Of course, we don’t know the prices right now. If we follow the line of previous models, the most logical thing is that the price of Samsung XCover 7 is around 600 euros.
