How Tanium and ServiceNow are shaping the future of IT with AI and real-time data

During the most recent edition of the ServiceNow World Forum in Rotterdam (November 23), it was once again clear how closely ServiceNow and Tanium’s products and roadmaps are linked. In addition to the main topic of artificial intelligence (AI), which dominated many presentations, there was also a lot of attention on subtopics such as Compliance & Risk and Employee Experience. And these are topics where Tanium can have a say and strengthen ServiceNow’s offering.

Anyone who organizes a conference these days cannot ignore the topic of AI. During the ServiceNow World Forum in Rotterdam, more than 1,300 attendees received a series of sneak peeks at how AI will further improve ServiceNow’s products in the future. Of course, the company is already using generative AI in products like Now Assist to make its customers more productive, agile and provide a better experience. However, the share of AI will continue to increase in the future. I’m eagerly looking forward to the Knowledge User Conference (May 7-9, Las Vegas), which is already being touted as the smartest Knowledge conference ever.

Combining artificial intelligence with real-time data

Tanium also helps make workflows in ServiceNow even smarter. After all, AI is often based on historical data. By putting this data into a “data lake” and analyzing it, solutions emerge that can prevent future problems. Of course, this is of little use when something new is created. Then you need real-time data, and that’s exactly what you get with Tanium. Organizations that can only use older and historical data are not reaping the full benefits of AI. In addition, they are increasingly exposed to risks because they do not have up-to-date visibility into their IT infrastructure. In our recently announced Autonomous Endpoint Management platform, we use real-time endpoint data. By combining instant insights with the ability to act using AI, companies can reduce their risks and recover from incidents before damage occurs.

Everything for a better digital experience

Of course, the ultimate goal of all this additional information is to provide users with a better experience, and that’s also one of the big themes for both ServiceNow and Tanium. This spring, Tanium announced Digital Employee Experience. The faster any problems are solved – ideally automatically and before the problems really become visible – the better the user’s digital experience. By using Tanium, companies using ServiceNow’s Now Assist can, for example, ensure smooth incident handling and all typical joiner/mover/leaver actions.

Compliance & Risk

Of course, with the impending introduction of NIS2 and DORA, many organizations are scrambling to get compliance and risk fully in order. Endpoint management is paramount: Are all endpoints managed? Are they configured correctly? Which endpoints are vulnerable? This is also an area where ServiceNow users can count on Tanium, thanks to Tanium Vulnerability Risk and Compliance (VRC) for ServiceNow. With this solution, organizations can proactively identify endpoint vulnerabilities, automate the patching process to close security gaps, improve response time to security incidents, eliminate risk exposures, and detect and alert on unauthorized changes. This allows them to confidently prepare for audits using Tanium’s real-time data.

CMDB as an “evergreen” topic

Data is critical as the foundation of ServiceNow’s workflows. We also heard this from the mutual customers we spoke to during the ServiceNow World Forum. Workflows are important, but you need data in your CMDB and preferably accurate data. If everything isn’t available in your CMDB, you’re going to have problems. The combination of ServiceNow with Tanium ensures a 100% accurate CMDB, even in real time.

As I look back over my professional career, I realize that we have been talking about the CMDB for several decades and this discussion will certainly continue for a while. The importance of the CMDB continues to increase. Traditionally, the CMDB was primarily used by IT operations and service management personnel, but today security and compliance & risk professionals are also users of these datasets. Each of these groups has different CMDB requirements, making it even more important to have accurate and up-to-date information. Fortunately, there are solutions for this in the form of Tanium Converged Endpoint Management.
