Qnap introduces the TS-hx77AXU-RP storage server series. Designed for rack integration, the devices feature powerful Ryzen 7000 processors.

Qnap launches the TS-hx77AXU-RP. The Taiwanese manufacturer calls it a ZFS NAS, but we wonder where the applicability of the term NAS ends and that of a classic storage server begins. Always a sturdy beast, the TS-hx77AXU-RP is the size of a server rack with a footprint of 2U or 3U. The device is also compatible with powerful AMD Ryzen 7000 processors and supports DDR5 and PCIe Gen 5.

Three variations

The storage specialist is launching three variants of the TS-hx77AXU-RP series. Two of them offer space for twelve drives and maintain the footprint of 2U. The third copy holds sixteen drives for the price of a 3U size. You can choose from the following devices:

  • TS-h1277AXU-RP-R5–16G: 2U, 12 x 3.5 or 2.5 inch HDD or SSD, AMD Ryzen 5 7000 6-core/12-thread processor (up to 5.1 GHz), 16 GB RAM
  • TS-h1277AXU-RP-R7–32G: 2U, 12 x 3.5 or 2.5 inch HDD or SSD, AMD Ryzen 7 7000 8-core/16-thread processor (up to 5.3 GHz), 32 GB RAM
  • TS-h1677AXU-RP-R7–32G: 3U, 16 x 3.5 or 2.5 inch HDD or SSD, AMD Ryzen 7 7000 8-core/16-thread processor (up to 5.3 GHz), 32 GB RAM

The devices are generally delivered with non-ECC RAM, but thanks to the Ryzen CPUs they also support ECC memory. According to Qnap, the Ryzen processors have a GPU component on board, making the hardware ideal for graphics workloads. For anyone who wants to install a fast cache, the devices are equipped with two M.2 PCIe (5) slots. Qnap provides two 2.5GbE ports and two 10GBASE-T ports by default. Three PCIe slots allow you to install expansion cards such as a 25GbE network card.

Qnap targets are used with the ZNF file system. The NAS/Server runs on the company’s own QuTS Hero operating system with all associated functions. The system supports up to 65,536 snapshots and has built-in inline data deduplication. With its SnapSync solution, Qnap enables two systems to be connected in real time for lightning-fast failover. The servers will be available soon. Expect a starting price of around 3,800 euros without VAT for the 2U model with Ryzen 5. The 3U server then costs around 5,400 euros.
