Alaska is one of the companies with the largest number of Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft (65), along with United (79), Copa, Aeroméxico, Iceland and some Asian companies.

A total of 215 such aircraft are in service around the world.

Both Alaska and United admitted that when they first tested their devices, they found screws and other loose parts.

The Alaska Airlines plane crashed on Saturday lost a panel at nearly 5,000 meters above sea level that had been used to seal a gap to accommodate an additional emergency door, a common measure on planes flying low-density passengers.

The plane was forced to return to Portland, Oregon, where it took off a few minutes after takeoff without serious injury.
