SpaceX expects the third test flight of its Starship rocket system to take place in February this year after receiving permission from the US Civil Aviation Administration (FAA).
This was reported by Space.com, as reported by Ukrinform.
“In terms of hardware preparation, we plan to be ready in January. We then expect to receive a license from the FAA for the third flight (Starship – ed.). We expect this license to be issued in February,” said Jessica Jensen, SpaceX Vice President of Customer Relations and Integration.
He added that SpaceX is finalizing the necessary adjustments following the company’s second Starship test flight.
Jensen also noted that the upcoming third Starship test flight “will not be a mission to perform ship-to-ship propellant transfer in orbit” that would be required for Artemis 3’s mission to the moon.
Starship will need “about 10 test flights” to refuel Artemis 3 in space, he said, but that number could change depending on the results of tests on its fuel transfer capabilities.
As Ukrinform reported, last year the Starship rocket system attempted two test flights in April and November, but both failed.
