It was noted that the launch of the Korean Aerospace Administration (KASA) was one of the pre-election promises of the country’s president, Yoon Seok-yeol.
The Ministry of Science and Information Technologies announced that it has set an ambitious goal of capturing 10% of the global spaceflight market by 2045. South Korean Science Minister Lee Jong-ho called the space agency’s planned launch a “big step” towards sending a spacecraft to the moon in 2032 and exploring Mars in 2045.
KASA will be responsible for the country’s space programs as well as aerospace research, including projects to explore the moon and Mars. With the establishment of KASA, South Korea plans to support more than 2,000 space-related companies and create approximately 500,000 new jobs, the ministry said in a statement.
