HP announces three new rugged Chromebooks (and a PC). The devices are aimed at employees who are often on the go.
HP is launching many new products during CES 2024. We’ve already received new Specter and Omen laptops this week, as well as related peripherals and new Poly headphones. That’s not all, as today the second largest laptop manufacturer is launching three new Chromebooks: Fortis x360 G5, Fortis G10, Fortis G11 and the Laptop Pro Fortis x360 G11.
The word “Fortis” means “strong” in Latin and HP therefore gives the four devices a MIL-STD 810 label. This means that they have passed the required drop and torture tests during production. With this rugged Chromebook, HP aims to appeal to mobile workers and students, types of users who are often on the go and therefore need a device that can withstand the whims of the outside world. That’s why the new models are equipped with a SIM card slot so that they can also be used in places where WiFi is not available.
We examine the Chrombooks one at a time, starting with the Fortis x360 models. These get their name from the fact that you can tilt the screen completely to use it as a tablet. The Fortis x360 G5 11″ has a screen diagonal of 11.6″ and supports HD image quality (1366 x 768 pixels). Touchscreen and the use of a stylus are supported.
An Intel N processor powers the device, supported by an Intel UHD for graphics. RAM and storage are up to 16GB LPDDR5 and 64GB respectively and can be combined in various configurations. The Chromebook comes with a 45W USB-C charger that allows you to charge the battery to ninety percent in ninety minutes. Logically, you also get two USB-C ports, as well as 2 USB-A, an HDMI 1.4 and an audio port.
We also offer the Pro Fortis x360 G11 under the brand name Fortis x360. This is not a Chromebook, but a Windows laptop with the same robust design with a tilting screen. When it comes to technical data, the notebook certainly has similarities with its ChromeOS cousin: the screen also measures 11.6 inches and there is an Intel N processor under the hood. The laptop ships with the Pro version of Windows 11 out of the box.
The Fortis G10 and G11 close the line. The main difference is the screen size: the G10 measures 11.6 inches diagonally, the G11 14 inches. Unlike the x360, these Chromebooks cannot be tilted into tablet mode. In addition, the specifications and ports are completely identical to those of the Fortis x360.
The new Chromebooks will be available this quarter. HP informs our editorial team of the following prices (including VAT):
