China’s private aerospace company Orienspace launched its own Gravity-1 launch vehicle, dubbed the world’s most powerful solid-fuel rocket, into space for the first time on Thursday.
This was reported by CGTN, according to the report of Ukrinform.
The launch was carried out from an offshore platform in the Yellow Sea near the city of Haiyang in the eastern province of Shandong. The rocket carrying three meteorological satellites “Yunyao-1” (Yunyao-1) was launched at 13:30 local time (07:30 Kiev time).
“Gravity-1” has a height of approximately 30 m, a takeoff weight of 400 tonnes and can lift approximately 6,500 kg of payload into low Earth orbit or 4,200 kg of payload into a 500-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit. It is capable of launching into space many satellites weighing more than 100 kg, as well as small cargo spacecraft weighing 3 to 4 tons.
The rocket has three main stages and four thrusters; all of them are equipped with solid fuel engines and rotating nozzles. At the same time, to increase payload capacity, the engine of the third stage can be replaced with an engine running on liquid oxygen and kerosene.
It is stated that Orienspace is currently developing the Gravity-2 launch vehicle and Gravity-3 heavy launch vehicle with multiple core stages.
As Ukrinform reports, SpaceX expects the third test flight of the Starship rocket system to take place in February this year, after receiving permission from the US Civil Aviation Administration (FAA).
