The Constitutional Court has granted protection to Guatemala’s Vice President-elect Karin Herrera after her legal team submitted a request regarding the possibility that the State Ministry would issue an arrest warrant for her to prevent her from taking office this Sunday.

The court reaffirmed “its commitment to the continued preservation of constitutional order and the rule of law.”

The agency sent a copy of the decision to the Fourth Division of the Court of Criminal, Drug and Environmental Crimes Appeals “so that the process can proceed.”

Prosecutors claim that the purchase of the program was made for 148 million quetzales (17.9 million euros), despite the fact that there was another lower offer “that would have saved 34 million” (4.1 million euros).
