Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa unveiled a design for two new maximum security prisons as part of the Phoenix Plan.
The prisons will be located in Pastaza and Santa Elena.
It includes “supermaximum”, “maximum” and “high security” modules.
They will have cellular and satellite signal suppression, as well as advanced technology electronic systems.
The government will equip the facilities with digital and analogue access and control, as well as a triple perimeter security barrier.
One of the policies that has received the most attention is that they will have “faceless security.”
The announcement came after reports emerged of guards being kidnapped and killed in various prisons.
It is part of the chaos that has erupted in various parts of the country, especially in Guayaquil, where gangs have taken over a television station and caused fear at the university and on the streets.
The government declared a state of emergency and curfew and ordered armed forces to patrol the streets to regain control.
