Google has released a list of at least seventeen features that will be removed from Google Assistant, Google’s voice assistant. The changes are said to be the result of user feedback as well as the company’s focus on the reliability and quality of the application. A few months ago a merger between Bard and Google Assistant was announced.
As of January 26th, 17 features would be removed from Google Assistant’s functionality. A list of deleted features has been created, but according to Google it is not yet complete. Notable lost features include sending email, video, or audio messages with your voice, using App Launcher in Driving Mode, and rescheduling events in Google Calendar with your voice. The list also shows what the functions can still do despite these changes and what alternative options there are.
In addition to the deleted features, the assistant will also appear differently on your phone. Assistant no longer shows the familiar microphone icon in the Google search bar. Users can only activate Assistant by saying “Hey Google” and long-pressing the power button.
Although Google has long stated that it will focus more on AI, it is noticeable that it is now cutting back so much on its AI product. Not long ago, the company announced the merger of Bard and Google Assistant during the Pixel 8 event in October 2023.
