The Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated consoles, and it is also one of the ones that generates the most doubts, especially due to the huge number of alleged leaks and rumors that have appeared in recent months. Some of this information suggested that this console will represent a very large generational leap compared to the original, but the latest rumors talk about a more modest and discreet evolution.
Nothing is confirmed at the moment, so both options are open. Personally, I’m inclined to think that we will see an important jump, although not as huge as some rumors suggested, and finally we have to take into account that the Nintendo Switch 2 It will be a laptop with the same hybrid feel as the original model, and will therefore be limited in terms of consumption and produced heat. Your SoC will have a TDP between 15 and 28 wattsand this will force sacrifices on a raw level of power.
As for the release date, we have new information that comes directly from Ai Shark’s spokesperson, who expressed that he believes the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in September 2024. This date matches up with all the rumors we’ve seen before, as well as what we’ve been able to read between the lines from Nintendo themselves, which have pointed to a launch at the end of this year.
The big N will once again use NVIDIA SoC for the Nintendo Switch 2 and most likely it will a customized version of Tegra Orin that they launched in green a while ago. As I said, it will be a completely customized solution adapted to the needs of the mentioned console, so its TDP will be between 15 and 28 watts and it will favor the GPU over the CPU.
The new Nintendo Switch 2 SoC is expected to feature a 64-bit ARM Cortex CPU 6 or 8 cores, although its architecture is still a mystery. It has been rumored that it could combine Cortex-X4 cores with Cortex-A520 cores, but this is not confirmed. This CPU will be accompanied by an NVIDIA GPU based on the Ampere architecture and configured with between 1536 and 2048 shaders, will speed up ray tracing and support NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution.
The memory of this console should be unified at least 12 GB, although ideally it should have 16 GB. It can be expected to include an SSD storage unit between 128GB and 256GB, which would represent a significant jump from the 32GB eMMC memory block that came with the original Nintendo Switch. The price of the next Nintendo console can reach 400 dollars, a figure that would represent a $100 increase over the current console’s launch price.
FYI: A spokesperson for Ai Shark told me they’re just guessing about the release date of Nintendo’s next console https://t.co/CqPE9oBSDr
