We will have to wait many more months for the arrival of Android 15, which will happen sometime between September and October of this year. However, if we look at the calendar that Google followed last year with Android 14, it is likely that the first developer beta will be released in just over a month, when we can start to see what this future update of the operating system has in store for us.

Just because there’s still no beta doesn’t mean we’re in a period of no idea what to expect, whether it’s due to rumors and leaks or, as is the case now, for features showing their paws in Android 14, although in this case more than showing means hiding, but not enough. And it’s fairly common for future features, in this case Android 15, to start testing (generally hidden from the general public) in previous releases.

So, A few weeks ago, we learned about what is supposed to be the first new feature of Android 15 which leaked, a feature that is undoubtedly highly anticipated, as it will allow us to get advanced information about the state of the battery. This is, as my colleague Isidro commented at the time, something that has been present on iOS for a long time, so it’s surprising that Google didn’t bring it to Android sooner. Now, as I mentioned this afternoon when I talk about the big issue with AirDrop, I’m very clear that I prefer it to arrive well than before.

Android 15 brings back widgets to the lock screen

Operating systems inspire each other and I’ve always said that I see that as a positive because it benefits their users. So if iOS 16 brought widgets to the iPhone lock screen, as we can read in Android Authority, Google will bring widgets back to the lock screen in Android 15. A very interesting move, as it involves restoring a feature that was previously present in the operating system from version 4.2 (Jelly Bean) to 5.0 (Lollipop), released in November 2014.

The reason why Google decided to remove them was never entirely clear and It’s also unclear at this point if these features will make it to all devices that they are updated to Android 15 or if, on the contrary, it will be limited exclusively to Pixel devices, tablets (as can be interpreted from the images in the article mentioned above) or some similar limitation. So now the question is whether we will clarify the doubts (pardon the redundancy) with the release of the first beta version or we will have to wait until the presentation of the operating system at Google I/O 2025, which should take place in May, to clear the doubts.
