Scientists from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University presented the development of an acoustic sensor that uses artificial intelligence to recognize shots and the type of a particular weapon.

According to Ukrinform, this situation was reported by Prague Radio.

This development could help expedite action in the event of a school shooting. The new acoustic shot detector can determine the location of the shooter as well as the type of weapon he used.

In a critical situation, the acoustic sensor can provide the police with the necessary information within a few seconds.

“The uniqueness of this system is the use of neural networks to determine the type of weapon fired. Therefore, this detector differs from other systems mainly in that it can not only detect and locate the shooter, but also distinguish shots from other acoustic pulse signals with a probability of more than 99% “He knows how to determine the type of weapon with 90 percent probability,” said Jakub Svatosh, an employee of the measurement department of the Czech Technical University.

According to the developers, the system will be used for special military purposes as well as in buildings such as schools, hospitals or residential areas.

Currently the system is in the prototyping phase.

A shooting reportedly occurred on December 21 at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University in central Prague. The identities of 14 victims of the attacker were determined. The ballistic examination also revealed that a man and a child had been killed with the same weapon in the Klanovitsky Forest a few days earlier (previously the police could not find any clues to the identity of the killer). The criminal also shot his father before leaving for college on December 21. Police found an arsenal of weapons in the university building, which the student had apparently been collecting there for some time and was unable to use all of them due to the actions of law enforcement.
