Steam Deck 2 specs, price and possible performance

Valve itself has talked more than once about Steam Deck 2, an update of its famous portable console, which, according to the company itself, will hit the market between 2025 and 2026. These are approximate dates, of course, but taking into account Given how well the original the model works, and the recent arrival of the OLED version makes it very likely that eventually this new generation goes to 2026.

A new rumor from Chinese sources also points in this direction, ensuring that the launch of Steam Deck 2 is scheduled for 2026, and also left us with interesting information about the possible specifications and price of this new console. The source says that this new console will again use an AMD chipand it will come with substantial improvements compared to the current model.

The APU that Steam Deck 2 will use will theoretically be made up of a 6-core, 12-thread CPU based on the Zen 4 architecture. That makes sense, in fact we have to look at the specs of the current model, which also didn’t use a processor based on AMD’s most modern architecture available when it hit the market.

That CPU should 16 MB L3 cache, and it is rumored that it could be configured with 4 Zen 4 cores and 2 Zen 4c cores. This approach would be interesting as the Zen 4c cores would help improve overall efficiency and autonomy. As for the GPU, it is rumored to be based on the RDNA 4 architecture and to have a total of 16 compute units, which would equate to 1,024 shaders, 64 texturing units, 32 rasterization units and 16 ray tracing acceleration cores.

Depending on the working speed of this GPU, its performance will be more or less high. Do an estimate for reference, if it hit 2GHz it would have a total performance of FP32 8.2 TFLOPs, thanks to dual-emission shaders. By comparison, a Radeon 780M running at 2GHz would offer the performance 6.14 TFLOPs in FP32. Obviously, since this is an integrated GPU, it will use RAM as VRAM.

To maximize available bandwidth, Steam Deck 2 is said to use memory LPDDR5X at 8.533 Gbps, and although the total available capacity has not been revealed, the most logical would be to double the capacity of the current model, from 16 GB to 32 GB. As for the rest, we can expect it to be equipped with a high-performance SSD and a screen 900p resolution.

According to this new rumor, the screen will OLED type and will offer a 90Hz refresh rate, although this contradicts other rumors that opted for an LCD panel. Nothing is confirmed yet, so both options are open right now. In terms of price, Steam Deck 2 could hit the market for a price between 450 and 500 euros in its basic configuration.
