The Galaxy S24 smartphones and the support of artificial intelligence technologies in several of their functions were the main content of the Samsung Unpacked event. But it wasn’t the only one, and the company also drew the first sketch of the Galaxy Ring, brand new device which will soon be included in its very wide range.

The presentation of this ‘Galaxy ring’ was short and to the point, just a teaser and an official announcement at the end of the event that left us with more questions than answers. We can only speculate as to what else we need to know about this smart ring, but we do have a few clear things to tell you.

What will the Galaxy Ring be like

The Galaxy Ring announcement was made by Dr. Matthew Wiggins, Clinical Research Scientist at Samsung Research, after the showing segment a new Samsung health experience based on the Galaxy AI platform. The statement clarified the focus of the facility: “Bringing Samsung Health’s cutting-edge innovations into a whole new form, we’ve created a powerful and affordable health and wellness device here that reshapes the future of health as only Samsung can.”.

This means that it will be a device that, like the quantification of wristbands and smart watches, will allow users to know their health parameters and act accordingly. We can guess that it will make use of the existing ecosystem of Samsung Health apps and the features introduced in the Galaxy Watch series over the years. Of course, the form factor has its limitations and it is certain that it will need to be connected to the same watches and/or mobile phones.

As for the capabilities of this Galaxy Ring, it talks about the symptoms of sleep apnea by monitoring patterns, changes in blood oxygen and heart rate. Or what is the same, a device for track, measure, monitor and record information related to health, fitness and sleep.

The new Samsung Health experience will also offer medication reminders with useful information about possible interactions with food or their residue. Wiggins also teased a “My Vitality Score” feature, a way to intelligently track a person’s physical and mental readiness to face the day based on sleep, activity and heart rate data.

Given Samsung’s alliance with Google around Android, we can expect it to offer (at least optionally) Google Fit integration. And a little more. A ring is a ring, although the Galaxy Ring has several sensors inside that allow you to monitor health parameters.

We expect it to be launched in a variety of diameters and finishes. And the price? Considering that the most interesting smart ring of the few to hit the market (Oura) has a price 300 dollarsthat’s where the launch price of the Galaxy Ring should be.
