A letter from Ireland’s Irish subsidiary said the servers would be shut down “due to changes in law”. Some servers will be shut down and in the near future company employees will contact providers to disable the equipment.
It is known that the disconnection of the servers affects the Russian providers “MIPT Telekom” and “Focus Life”. At the same time, several providers reported that they did not receive notification of the termination of their Google Global Cache service agreement.
It is stated that the bankruptcy of the Russian legal entity Google is not related to the termination of Google Global Cache, as it is a “global service”.
How will it affect Russia?
Now a large part of Internet traffic is provided by Google services. Google Global Cache local servers reduce the load on the carrier’s network and speed up downloading of content for the consumer.
According to experts, if Russia’s Global Cache is disconnected, this can lead to higher internet prices, because operators will have to compensate for increased maintenance costs. In this case, all traffic will be transferred to several foreign channels, which may have less bandwidth reserves. This affects network stability and content download speed.
It will be remembered that on May 18, Google LLC (Google’s representative office in Russia) initiated bankruptcy proceedings. The reason for this lies in the company’s recent losses. And it led in particular to fines that local regulators imposed on the company one after another.
