The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has lost contact with the Ingenuity helicopter, which has already made more than 70 flights to Mars.
This was reported by Space.com, as reported by Ukrinform.
NASA said that contact was lost with the 1.8 kilogram helicopter at the end of its 72nd flight to Mars on Thursday, January 18.
“Ingenuity data sent during the flight to the Perseverance rover (which acts as a relay between the helicopter and Earth) shows that it successfully climbed to the designated maximum altitude of 12 metres. However, during the planned landing, communication between the helicopter and the rover was lost before landing,” NASA said.
It is stated that the Ingenuity project team is currently analyzing the available data and evaluating the next steps to restore communication with the helicopter.
As Ukrinform reported, the Ingenuity helicopter was delivered to the Red Planet along with NASA’s Perseverance rover on February 18, 2021. Ingenuity made its first flight on April 19. Helicopter worth $85 million. It was the first aircraft launched to another planet.
