Scientists at the University of Washington have created microrobots similar to real insects that could be used in the future, for example, in search and rescue operations.
According to the report submitted by Ukrinform with reference to IEEE, the scientists’ report was presented at the international conference on intelligent work and systems of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
As mentioned, the insect robot weighs only 8 mg, while the water meter robot weighs 55 mg. They can move at a speed of approximately 6 mm/s.
These are the smallest, lightest and fastest fully functional microrobots ever created.
The basic element of robots is microwaves. Scientists used a new production technique to reduce the weight of the wire to less than 1 mg.
In the future, these robots may find application in fields such as artificial pollination, search and rescue operations, environmental monitoring, microfabrication or robotic surgery.
According to Ukrinform, technology companies in Japan are developing unmanned driving and remote control technologies for snow removal equipment.
