Apple is adding a new security feature to the recently released iOS 17.3. Stolen Device Protection makes it harder for thieves to access data.

Apple’s new security feature is part of the just-released iOS 17.3 update. This stolen device protection requires Face ID or Touch ID for certain actions. In addition, a waiting time is set for sensitive actions and the security layer concludes with additional authentication. The feature is available in the iOS 17.3 update and can be easily activated.

How it works

The new security feature requires users to use their Face ID or Touch ID for various actions. Apple wants to prevent thieves from quickly gaining access to important applications such as banking apps, password managers or iCloud data. A simple passcode on your lock screen is easy for thieves to find.

In addition, a waiting time is also set when performing sensitive actions, such as: B. changing your Apple ID password or your iPhone passcode. This security delay requires Face ID or Touch ID. After that, you have to wait an hour and authenticate yourself again. This additional layer of authentication is only required in known locations, such as home or work.

Activate protection function

If you have the new iOS17.3 update, you can easily enable this protection feature. Go to the app Institutions and select Face ID and passcode. Here you can enter your device passcode to activate the feature.
