The Pixel Watch 3, the next generation of Google’s smartwatches, will solve the size problem and will increase the interest of potential buyersas it will be sold in different sizes to fit all wrists.
Google has entered the smartwatch fray after acquiring Fitbit, a specialist in wearable devices. The commitment to its own hardware ended with the original version to serve as a reference and convince its partners (especially Samsung) of the benefits of adopting Wear OS as the only way to compete with the segment leaders, the Apple Watch.
The current Pixel Watch 2 has improved on almost every part from the original version, with a dedicated SoC for wearables, Snapdragon Wear W5 Gen 1, a lightweight aluminum chassis, connectivity and sensors, improved in number and capacity. In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful watches on the market.but its launch was criticized due to the fact that Google launched only one version, 41 mm, which is the small diameter of the sector.
Pixel Watch 3, different versions
It is clear that Google will respond to the complaints and launch its new watch in different versions. This opens the door to another group of buyers who prefer larger sizes. To put things into perspective, the Apple Watch Series 9 is available in 41mm or 45mm, while the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 can be purchased in 40mm and 44mm sizes, in addition to the Classic variant with two additional sizes, 43mm and 44mm. 47 mm. Models like the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5, some of the best you can find with Wear OS, are 48mm in size.
Pixel Watch 2 vs. Galaxy Watch 6 Classic
The larger version will not only encourage users with larger wrist sizes, but also allow a a screen with a larger display capacity and possibly a larger capacity battery which leads to autonomy. The array of sensors is already notable, so we don’t think it’s much different once Fitbit’s sports activity and health tracking capabilities are factored in.
Yes, the refresh of the main SoC is certain, which we believe will continue to be from Qualcomm, from the dedicated Snapdragon Wear series. The new watch should also update wireless connectivity, at least to Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3.
Hopefully, despite the -enforced- increase in screen size, Google can minimize the screen bezels and the thinness of its thickness. It will release the latest version of Wear OS available and will be available in the second half of 2024. Whether the current bands will be compatible with the new versions due to the increase in size is unknown.
