If a few hours ago I talked about the news about the future iPhone 16, Now it’s the turn of the future Google Pixel 9 Pro. And before I start evaluating what was leaked, I think it’s interesting to think about what this means, that Google’s Pixel devices already play in the premium of high-end devices in terms of the interest that arouses the most significant leaks of this interesting ecosystem. Another recognition, albeit indirect, of more than proven merit.
Moreover, today is turning out to be a particularly interesting day in this sense, and this morning we rehashed another leak regarding Pixel devices, more specifically the Pixel Watch 3, the next generation of Google’s smartwatches, which, if there are no surprises, we can expect to hit the market early October of this year if Google decides to repeat the plan it used last year with the current generation. If so, the Watch 3 would arrive alongside the Pixel 9 generation.
Well, now we find it on 9to5Google this appears to be the first render of the future Google Pixel 9 Pro, the top of the range that left such a good taste in the mouth in its current generation in its review. And while this leak obviously doesn’t tell us anything in terms of the performance and features we can expect from it, it does reveal some pretty noticeable changes when it comes to the design of this upcoming device.
So there are two big changes that Google seems to be making to refresh the aesthetic design of the Pixel 9 Pro and possibly the Pixel 9 with respect to previous generations. The first, I’m sure you’ve already noticed, is that smartphone abandons rounded edges which have been present to a greater or lesser extent since the Pixel 4 generation. Instead, we find here completely straight edges that only minimally curve in the part closest to the screen. However, the silver metallic edge appears to be retained with the back in a choice of colors we still don’t know.
Another quite noticeable change is found in a very characteristic group of elements that make up the device’s main camera. As you may remember, until the Pixel 5 generation, Google opted for a fairly conventional design, placing all the elements in a box in the upper left corner of the back. However, with the arrival of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, we saw the debut of a design that, while initially disconcerting, eventually became an unmistakable Pixel hallmark.
Well, after three generations of the unmistakable camera bar, it looks like it’s time for a change with the Pixel 9 Pro (and potentially the 9 too, of course), a design you’ll certainly be familiar with, Well, it’s the one we already saw last May with the launch of the Google Pixel Fold. As you can see, with this design, the cameras and other elements are integrated into a fairly wide bar, but unlike what we saw in the Pixel 6, 7 and 8, it no longer reaches the edges of the phone, which is something that we can do without certainly related to their design change, as it seems that Google wants right angles to reign on the back of this future Pixel 9 Pro.
It has always been rightly said that taste depends on colors. Personally, and I’ve mentioned it on occasion, I like the design of the Pixel 8 and how it turned out for me notch With the iPhone, I’m a firm believer in distinctive elements that give the design of certain devices their own distinct personality, and that certainly applies to the Pixel 6, 7, and 8’s array of main camera elements. No embargo, It is also true that design requires a certain evolution over time. and in this case, if what we can see in these renders is finally confirmed, I think that Google is on the right track with the Pixel 9, because at the same time it maintains its own identity, but also offers some renewal that aims to contribute a point freshness.
