Nokia signs patent cross-licensing agreement with Oppo for 5G

The specific terms of the contract are confidential. Jenny Lukander, president of Nokia Technologies, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, highlighting mutual respect for each other’s intellectual property rights and Nokia’s contributions to research, development and open standards. The deal is expected to bring long-term financial stability to Nokia’s licensing business.

Oppo’s head of intellectual property, Feng Ying, also shared this sentiment, emphasizing that the agreement is the basis for future cooperation. Oppo, a leading player in the global smartphone market, continues to advocate reasonable rewards and a constructive approach to intellectual property disputes.

Nokia’s extensive patent portfolio, based on significant investments in research and development, includes approximately 20,000 patent families, more than 6,000 of which are 5G-related. The company uses a fair licensing approach that allows other companies to use these technologies without a significant investment in standards.

Oppo has a prominent position as a key beneficiary and innovator in the 5G space. The company has established a strong presence in intellectual property by applying for patents for the 5G communications standard worldwide.
