Microsoft Teams introduces 3D and VR meetings

Microsoft Teams users can now join 3D and VR meetings thanks to Microsoft Mesh integration with Teams. This upgrade is only available for Microsoft Teams corporate channels.

Starting today, the experience of a Teams meeting will literally take on a whole new dimension. Mesh, Microsoft’s mixed reality platform, is being integrated into Microsoft Teams. This allows people to watch meetings and network in a virtual space, with or without VR glasses. All standard Mesh features will be available for Microsoft Teams business plans.

3D and VR meetings

Microsoft Mesh is based on Azure and was originally intended as an entry-level platform for developers. The project received a new face and continued to serve as a virtual space in which people could get in touch with each other.

By integrating Mesh into Teams, employees can now participate in virtual 3D meetings. The impressive spatial audio function makes it possible to have private conversations in virtual space by addressing a specific colleague. For an immersive 3D experience, the meetings can be attended with VR glasses. Without VR glasses it remains a 2D experience in a 3D world.

Mesh as part of Teams

This integration ensures that Mesh increasingly becomes a feature of Teams rather than a standalone platform. It remains to be seen how and whether this function will be accepted by companies. Mesh features are available for Microsoft Teams business plans. If you want to sit in customized rooms, you need a Teams Premium license.
