Japanese food company NH Foods has developed a product it calls “alternative tuna” using plant-based ingredients.
This was reported by NHK, as reported by Ukrinform.
NH Foods claims that this product can help preserve tuna stocks in the ocean. Fish itself is very popular in Japanese cooking.
The company also claims that the product is made from “Konnyaku” (a species of subtropical tuberous plants from the Klyshtinaceae family) based on sweet potatoes and other ingredients.
NH Foods says it spent six months testing and developing the product’s fish-like taste and texture.
It is stated that the Japanese food company plans to start selling “alternative tuna” to businesses as of April.
As reported by Ukrinform, members of the European Parliament adopted an amendment that removes the wooden packaging of Camembert cheese from the list of items required for processing.
