The South Korean technology giant is the leader in the foldable smartphone segment with its latest products Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. But it looks like a new type of smartphone may also be in the works that focuses on enlarged display rather than flexibility. A Samsung patent has been spotted showing a phone with a square shape and a sliding screen. Such an innovative design could even solve some problems faced by complex phones.

The floating phone will look more like a regular screen and will become more durable and practical for users. For those who don’t know, a regular smartphone is more powerful than a foldable smartphone because the moving parts are also vulnerable to its integrity. But Samsung’s latest patent may challenge this with a different kind of flexible display. Unlike a typical foldable phone, which has a long, flexible frame, a slide-out bezel is a small part of the device that can be pulled out for extra screen real estate.

The new design will focus on parallel alignment as well as unique connections and support structures to give the display greater flexibility and durability.
