Starting in March, Apple will allow EU users to download apps not only from the AppStore but also from third-party stores, in accordance with EU antitrust requirements.
According to Ukrinform, this situation was reported by the BBC.
The company also said it will expand its browser options, after which users in the EU will be able to stop using Safari and choose a different default browser.
This is due to the entry into force of the EU Digital Markets Law. Its aim is to regulate the activities of the largest companies that provide access to services such as search engines and application stores, making the market fairer for large companies and small firms. Additionally, the EU accuses Apple of creating a monopoly.
The company criticized the law, saying it could threaten user privacy and increase the risk of malware downloads and fraud.
Today every iPhone owner can download applications only from the official App Store.
As reported by Ukrinform, Apple has released operating system updates for iPhone (iOS 17.3) and iPad (iPadOS 17.3).
