On Friday, January 26, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) showed images of the Japanese SLIM probe after its successful landing on the moon.
This is stated on the NASA website, Ukrinform reports.
The photos were taken by the US agency’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), which flew over the landing site and photographed SLIM five days after it touched down on Earth’s moon.
“LRO acquired the image at an altitude of approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers). The bright lines in the left part of the image are rocky material ejected from the nearby relatively young crater Shioli (Shioli – ed.), NASA said in a statement.
Japan became the fifth country to make a soft landing on the Moon.
As reported by Ukrinform, SLIM was launched in September 2023 together with the X-ray space telescope XRISM.
On December 25, SLIM entered lunar orbit before landing on Earth’s moon. On December 28, the probe transmitted the first images of the Moon to Earth.
On January 19, the Japanese lander landed on the moon but lost power a few hours later.
