Due to the DMA law passed in the European Union, Apple allows the use of application stores other than the App Store on iPhones. So, as with Android, it will be possible to install and download stores other than the official store. With the iOS 17.4 update, expected to arrive in March, anyone living in European Union countries will have access to what Apple calls “alternative application marketplaces.” Turkey is not among the first countries, but we have an estimate of the date when this change will take place in Turkey.
Alternative stores and applications coming to the iPhone are first inspected by Apple. We don’t know how tight Apple will keep control here. If it becomes selective like with apps, most of the stores on the Android side can be eliminated. There is a very important detail here: we will also have the option to choose the alternative store as the “default store” instead of the App Store. By default, when we click on a download link for an application, the application is downloaded from the store we selected, instead of from the App Store.
