Logitech has launched its new video conferencing portfolio. The series, which runs on the CollabOS operating system, is made from recycled plastic. In this way, the company supports business customers in achieving their sustainability goals. Existing products are also being sustainably “redesigned”.
The new and existing products (including Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini, Tap IP, Tap Scheduler and Scribe) are made from materials that reduce carbon emissions per product. At the same time, Logitech announced that it is making its Design for Sustainability principles, tools and knowledge available to consumer electronics manufacturers to help them advance their own sustainability goals.
CO2 challenges
“By reducing the carbon footprint of our video conferencing portfolio, we are helping other companies with their sustainability challenges,” said Prakash Arunkundrum, Chief Operating Officer at Logitech. “We not only design and manufacture our new products from recycled plastic and other low-carbon materials, but we also apply this vision to our current offering. Furthermore, we do this without increasing the prices of our products or sacrificing the quality and performance that companies have come to expect from Logitech.”
Efforts to reduce negative environmental impacts are an increasingly important part of doing business. A Frost & Sullivan survey of IT professionals found that 65 percent want to pursue leadership on environmental, social and governance issues, Logitech wrote in a press release. In fact, this is considered a “critical” or “very important” goal for the coming year. Means Design for sustainability (DfS) principles across Logitech’s video conferencing portfolio, customers can now fully equip their meeting rooms, including Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms, with technology that’s built to last.
Post-consumer plastics
Logitech uses circular materials from waste, giving them a second life. This also includes post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR), which the company calls “Next Life Plastics”. For example, a product like Logitech Sight is made from at least 50 percent recycled plastic. This results in a CO2 reduction of up to 21 percent and 1,400 tons of CO2 are avoided per 100,000 units. Video conferencing products are made from low-carbon aluminum and use renewable energy instead of fossil fuels to reduce emissions. The packaging material comes from FSC-certified forests and other controlled sources.
The company provides its customers with its DfS principles, tools and knowledge for integrating sustainable materials into production processes. This enables every company in the consumer electronics market to leverage Logitech’s expertise to take steps toward their own sustainability goals.
