The web browser in Microsoft’s Android version continues to improve. Recently, Microsoft’s AI Copilot was updated with more features, including the ability to analyze and render images directly in the Android version. Now, mobile browser is getting ready to take another important step.
And Edge for Android There will be extension support, same as the desktop version. Thus, the Microsoft browser will join Firefox with extension support in its mobile version; This is something that even Chrome doesn’t currently offer.
Microsoft Edge will surpass Chrome by adding extensions to its Android version
Extension support in Edge for Android was discovered by an X (Twitter) user known as: @Leopeva64He shared screenshots of his discovery on the social network.
Currently only extension support is available.Available for development version of Edge for Androidspecifically for Edge Canary available on the Google Play Store.
When installing the browser it is possible to enable extension support from a hidden menu by following these steps:
Access Edge Canary (as of version 123)
Type in the address bar edge://flags and press “Go”
In the search bar “ExtensionsEnable ”and“ optionAndroid Extension”
Restart the browser to apply the changes
Thus, I was able to activate the experimental function of Extensions in the Edge Canary version, even though I could not access it. Edge’s address list already contains two pages dedicated to extensions, but they are still inactive.
It’s important to keep two things in mind: first, this and all the options available in the edge://flags menu are: experimental features that may affect how the browser works (Since Edge Canary itself is a development version, its operation is not stable).

Secondly, even if extension support is enabled from the experimental features menu, This does not mean that extensions are already available for all. In my case, I did not have access to extensions when I enabled the option, while user @Leopeva64 gained access to a new button for Extensions in the Edge settings menu that was not visible in my browser.
From this button you can access the list of available extensions, which currently includes uBlock Origin, Dark Reader and Global Speed.

The news of this development version of Edge is expected to reach all users in March. However, it has not yet been confirmed that the extensions will be released to the Android browser in the same month, but the presence of these advances in the Canary version ensures that they will be available sooner rather than later. Firefox recently released support for more than 400 extensions in its Android version. Will Chrome also join this trend?
