Morse Micro, a wireless technology company, has set a new record. With support for the HaLow standard (802.11ah), the company has achieved a Wi-Fi distance record of three kilometers. Not only the distance is striking, but also the distance performance and the low energy consumption. In the long term, Wi-Fi HaLow will be particularly interesting for companies that have backend devices, for example.
Distance, performance and power consumption. Wi-Fi HaLow scores on each of these three factors. Not only is the distance of three kilometers a record, the performance is also good at this distance, despite conclusions from wireless connections in the surrounding cities. Over three kilometers the connection still reached a very usable megabit per second. Additionally, Wi-Fi HaLow offers lower power consumption compared to fast Wi-Fi solutions like Wi-Fi 7. You can see Morse Micro’s test in action in the video below.
The HaLow standard was announced in 2016 but has not yet been used in practice. Wi-Fi HaLow isn’t the kind of Wi-Fi you’ll be seeing in living rooms any time soon. This WiFi solution will be particularly interesting in the corporate sector for connecting devices at large locations.
