French geologists found two chains of 85 human footprints dating back 90,000 years on a beach in Morocco. These well-preserved prints are among the oldest and only examples of their kind discovered in North Africa and the Southern Mediterranean.
The study showed that a group of five representatives left 85 footprints. homo sapiens. By analyzing the quartz crystals that make up most of the sand on the beach, scientists found that a group of people walked on the beach about 90,000 years ago, during the late Pleistocene, or the last ice age that ended about 11,700 years ago.
Based on the size and dimensions of the indentations, scientists were able to determine the approximate age of the people who made them. The analysis showed that both adults and young people with children were moving.
Researchers explained the excellent safety of the trails by the fact that the sandy shallows through which ancient people passed during low tide were located on a rocky platform covered with clay deposits. The impressions remained on the clay and were then quickly buried by tidal waves carried by the sand. The original study was published in the journal Scientific Reports.
