The latest results from Steam’s hardware and software survey confirm that Windows 11 continues to be popular with users, with the operating system growing by 2.29% during the month of January, placing it at the top of the overall 44.24%. If we compare it with Windows 10, we see that the difference in favor is only 7.19%.
This represents an important change in trend. If Windows 11 maintains its upward trend and growth figures are similar to those recorded in January of this year, it may end it surpasses Windows 10 before summer. With an average monthly growth of 2% over four months, it would already be above the mentioned operating system. As an unofficial fact, we see that Windows 7 still has a 0.59% user share, despite the fact that it has not been officially supported for years.
Jumping to the hardware, we see that there are no important changes. NVIDIA continues to lead in graphics cards and the GeForce X060 family remains the most popular. The most used is the GeForce RTX 3060 with a share of 4.83%, followed by the GeForce GTX 1650 and GeForce RTX 3060 for notebooks. The fourth place is for the GeForce GTX 1060, the fifth is the GeForce RTX 2060 and the sixth is the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.


Within the GeForce RTX 40 series, the highest model is the GeForce RTX 4060 for laptops with 2.52% and for desktops. GeForce RTX 4070 with 1.50%. On AMD’s side, the top scorers are its integrated GPUs, which add up to 2.11% and the desktop Radeon RX 580 to 0.92%. Most Steam users have 8 GB of graphics memory (31.79%), 15.04% have 12 GB of graphics memory and only 1.81% have 16 GB of graphics memory.
Otherwise, there are no surprises, 6-core processors are still the most used with a share of 31.64%, followed by 4-core processors with 22.49% and 8-core with 20.89%. The most common operating speed is between 2.3GHz and 2.9GHz and most users (49.60%) have 16 GB of RAM.
The dominant resolution for gaming on Steam hasn’t changed since then 59.70% of respondents play in 1080p resolutionand 51.98% have storage units larger than 1 TB. The most used VR headset is Oculus Quest 2 with 40.64%, followed by Valve with 15% and Meta Quest 3 with 14.05%.
