A court in California obliged Tesla Inc. It will pay $1.5 million as part of a legal settlement over the company’s mismanagement of hazardous waste at auto service centers, energy centers and a factory.

This was reported by the Associated Press, Ukrinform reported.

The complaint concerns the illegal disposal of hazardous waste and violations of laws regarding their storage and management.

“Electric vehicles play an important role in improving the environmental situation, but it is important to recognize that they produce and retain harmful waste,” said San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas.

It was noted that Tesla took steps to correct the situation by cooperating with the investigation.

A settlement was reached that included a $1.3 million civil penalty, $200,000 to cover investigation costs, employee training and third-party waste audits.

Tesla owns and operates approximately 57 auto dealerships and 18 solar farms in California and produces electric vehicles in the city of Fremont.

As reported by Ukrinform, Tesla is recalling 2.2 million vehicles in the United States due to incorrect size warning light symbols on the dashboard, increasing the risk of accidents on the road.
