The Orange Pi Neo is a new handheld game machine from the Chinese group Shenzhen Xunlong. It’s been in development for quite some time and now we have the final specs. And we like it, even if we don’t know the selling price.

You’ll know this brand for its single-board computers, perhaps the best alternatives to Raspberries. Now it wants to enter a new segment of the market, and what better way to do it than in one of the “hottest”, portable consoles that are experiencing a new youth and that are stocking up week after week.

The final design is quite a departure from what we’ve known so far, leaving us with a fairly compact machine (260 x 107 x 19mm) with a screen 7 inches, FHD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) in 16:10 aspect ratio, 500 nits brightness and 120 Hz refresh rate. Features two analog sticks, D-Pad, linear Hall triggers, action buttons and keyboard Home, Select, Menu and other interactions.

Its hardware base is really powerful, sa Ryzen 7 7840 with 8 Zen4 cores and 12 RDNA3 graphics units. You can install 16 or 32 Gbytes of LPDDR5 memory, and for storage it uses an M.2 PCIe Gen4 SSD with capacities from 512 Gbytes to 2 Tbytes. It will have a special cooling system, with a fan, double copper pipes and aluminum fins for cooling.

Very complete in connectivity with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, a new USB4 type C interface, a slot for an external memory card, stereo speakers and a 50 Wh lithium-polymer battery. It has dual 6-axis gyroscopes and RGB lighting and will be sold in white or black finishes.

In the software section, choose one of the most interesting Linux distributions, Manjaro OSalthough it is not excluded that it will eventually reach the market with other operating systems.

We still need a final price and then we’ll know if it’s really worth it. Orange Pi usually has attractive prices for its SBC boards. We will tell you about it, but one more points to the market of handheld gaming machines with more and more alternatives.
