VPNs will be blocked in Russia from March 1: What else will Russians have to say goodbye to?

Awareness, criticism and the facts that Russians might accidentally learn instead of the propaganda they are used to could be hell outside the Kremlin.

Russia is among the top three in the world in terms of the number of downloads of applications that allow you to bypass blocking. Again, all of this is due to propaganda and restrictions on freedom of expression.

Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin has decided to blacklist dozens of sources for allegedly being a threat to national security.

And with the help of a VPN, Russians managed to visit blocked sites. And since the Kremlin literally sees VPNs as “the enemy of state security,” Russian government officials will begin blocking these services.

What services will Russians not be able to use?

We are specifically talking about VPN services that provide access to social networks: Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. According to Russian authorities, limiting access to these platforms is particularly important.

Interestingly, there is even a “Safe Internet Alliance” in Russia, whose leader Kateryna Mizulina visited schoolchildren in Yekaterinburg with her propaganda narratives. In a meeting with children, he brainwashed them that the Internet was bad and was literally “a gateway to hell.”

He stated that the services steal user information, so the fact that VPNs are banned in Russia is a blessing for them.

“A VPN, especially a free one, is your gateway to hell. Because your data will be pulled from your device forever,” Mizulina said.

He also said that authorities cannot restrict all VPN services but will block the biggest ones.
