The Dutch government is considering leaving Facebook due to concerns about how the platform ensures data security.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to De Telegraaf.

“The Dutch government is considering a complete withdrawal from Facebook. The report stated that there are serious concerns about how the platform handles sensitive data.

It was stated that concerns about Facebook’s processing of sensitive data have been expressed by the government for years. According to Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Alexandra van Haffelen, the company is not doing enough to talk about improvements in this regard.

“In 2017, the Dutch Data Protection Authority found that Facebook violated privacy law in two areas: informing users and handling sensitive data. “Then Meta made adjustments,” he said. However, he added that this did not solve the problem, and new questions arose. Unable to solve the problems, the government asked for advice from the data protection authority on whether it is safe to continue using Facebook. De Telegraaf said that this advice is expected in the near future noted.

At the same time, the Dutch government is currently considering the possible consequences if Facebook is banned.

As Ukrinform reported, the Dutch government has banned officials from installing TikTok on work phones due to fears of spying by the Chinese platform.
