French data center specialist OVHcloud opens its first two public cloud “local zones” in Madrid and Brussels, based on the latest gridscale technology.

OVHcloud is one of the largest independent providers in Europe. In 2022, OVHcloud received a €200 million European loan to expand its data centers and invest in researching new cooling techniques. A few years ago, OVHcloud was hit by a fire at its data centers in Strasbourg, France.

Today the company announced the opening of its first two public cloud “Local Zones,” located in Madrid and Brussels. These zones are based on new gridscale technology and offer customers the ability to access the group’s public cloud services with low latency and local data location. The new “Local Zones” in Spain and Belgium are certified to the highest security standards and allow companies to securely deploy their services in an OVHcloud environment.

Local data location and low latency

The new, innovative gridscale technology enables the group to use cloud capacity to serve new international locations. OVHcloud’s new local zones offer customers the benefits of the group’s open and trusted cloud, as well as the benefits of data residency. Due to the locality of data and accessibility in the cloud, customers can be assured that their data remains within geographic boundaries and defined by local regulations or security policies.

These local zones also have the advantage of better latency. Workloads with latency-sensitive services deliver faster response times for a better user experience.

Big ambitions

OVHcloud has ambitious plans for the future. In this globally growing cloud market, the company aims to meet the demand for cloud services in existing and new regions. The group’s goal is to open a maximum of 150 local zones by 2026. It wants to open a maximum of 15 local zones by 2024. In Europe this affects cities such as Prague, Marseille, Milan, Amsterdam and Zurich.
