The Universal Print feature makes the long-awaited transition to macOS. All your printers are available from the cloud without the need to install drivers.
Universal Print is a well-known concept among Microsoft 365 users. Microsoft announced the feature in 2020 and it became available to all business and education subscribers in 2021. Just three years later, the printer hub also switched to macOS Ventura 13.3. This was reportedly planned last year, but it is not clear why the launch was postponed until now.
To install Universal Print on your Mac, first sign in to the Microsoft Azure portal. in the menu Global settings You can activate the preview by clicking on it Show all printers click. Now you need to install the Universal Print App from the App Store. You then log in with your account and from then on you can search for printers and add them to your dashboard. Through Print in macOS You can finally print files.
The big advantage of Universal Print is that you can house all your office printers in a common dashboard. Your printers are available in the cloud through the application, so you don’t have to install a driver for each individual printer on your PC. You simply choose which printer you want to use. Most office printers from well-known brands such as Brother, Canon, Epson, HP, Konica Minolta, Lexmark, Toshiba, Ricoh and Xerox support the function.
The macOS version is still a preview for now and from the first reactions in the macOS forum we conclude that not everything works 100% as it should. If you’re having trouble getting started, for example because a printer doesn’t want to appear in the overview, Microsoft recommends searching for the printer by name and/or by location by assigning location information to the printers in the Azure portal.
