There was a time, years ago, when Apple tried to offer always updated versions of some of your Windows applications. Of course, I especially remember the version of iTunes for the Microsoft operating system, the software that was necessary to manage… yes, you know what I’m going to tell you, the iPod, which for many people was the gateway to the ever-expanding ecosystem of devices and services from Cupertino.
So, Apple took care of its presence in Windows for some timeand even developed a specific version of Safari for Windows. It was never particularly successful, but it was an interesting attempt by Apple to grow in a market as complex as web browsers. However, aside from this bold but failed attempt, the company has been wary of offering Windows users the most up-to-date versions of iTunes for years.
That changed, however, when Apple started ditching iTunes in favor of Apple Music, Apple TV, and the rest of the apps that access its services. In 2019, Cupertino said goodbye to the version of iTunes for macOS, because its need has already been met by the specific applications I mentioned above. However, iTunes continued to be the only option in terms of software to access these services from Microsoft’s operating system.
It has been known for some time that the tech company is working on solving this loophole, and some apps were even published in preview mode a year ago, but there has been no further news about it since then, until now. And as we can read in Ars Technica, Apple has significantly updated the offer of its applications for Windowswith the final versions of Apple Music, Apple TV Plus and the iCloud client, among others.
As soon as I read this I opened the Microsoft Store and downloaded the Apple Music app (all the restored apps are in the Windows software store) because until now I was using iTunes and I finally found myself in Windows with the same and so good experience that the service gives me in its iOS and macOS versions (yes, I know there is a web version, but I prefer the app to manage iTunes Match). Another thing was to install the Apple TV app as well, and the same, Apple demonstrating that when it wants to do something well, it does it very well.
I won’t deny that I was personally extremely happy, but it’s also a very smart move on Apple’s part, because providing this user experience to Windows users is exactly what a way to attract them to subscribe to your services. You could say it’s better for users and better for Apple, it’s win-win-Windows.
