International organization Accuses Israel of stamping out journalism ‘with impunity’ and the right to information.
“In four months of conflict, Palestinian journalism has been destroyed by Israeli forces with complete impunity,” Paris-based RSF said in a statement.
RSF adds that “the journalists who survived these four months live in hell: in inhumane conditions they suffer from all sorts of shortages, especially of equipment, as well as from regular news blackouts.”
He reiterates that journalists in the Gaza Strip have no safe place to work and that many of them are concentrated in Rafah, on the border with Egypt, which was declared a “safe zone” by Israel at the beginning of the conflict.
But Rafah is now also the target of Israeli bombing, and Reporters Without Borders regrets that Israel is keeping the border crossing closed to journalistsso that Palestinian informants cannot travel to Egypt to seek asylum, and international informants cannot enter there.
Material losses are added to the victims, RSF emphasizes.
According to the Union of Palestinian Journalists (PJS), the offices of some 50 local and international media outlets in Gaza were completely or partially destroyed.
RSF recalls that it filed two complaints with the prosecutor’s office of the International Criminal Court (October 31 and December 22) in connection with the death of journalists and the destruction of their workplaces. (EFE)
