Apple reportedly reached an agreement with SoC company Rivos, which it sued for stealing trade secrets in 2022 Bloomberg. Rivos will forensically examine its systems to remove sensitive Apple information.
Rivos hired more than 40 Apple employees, including several former senior engineers, prompting Apple to file a lawsuit in May 2022. Apple accused Rivos of kidnapping employees and stealing chip trade secrets through those employees. Rivos is developing SoCs that can compete with Apple’s A and M series chips.
According to Apple, at least two engineers hired by Rivos received “gigabytes of confidential SoC specifications and design files” during their last few days at Apple. Employees used USB drives and AirDrop to transfer confidential Apple materials to their personal devices and allegedly stole presentations of unreleased SoCs.
Apple sought an injunction against employees who joined Rivos to prevent further leaks of confidential data and sought damages for misappropriation of trade secrets and “unjust enrichment” of Rivos at Apple’s expense. Apple asked Rivos for a “reasonable royalty” on future products and requested a jury trial.
