Instagram and Threads will no longer recommend political content to social media users.
As reported by Ukrinform, Engadget reported this.
Users will only see political content from accounts they follow, but Instagram and Threads will no longer “proactively promote” such posts, according to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri.
The change, which will be available “over the next few weeks,” will apply to user recommendations in Threads and public accounts where Meta’s recommendation algorithms recommend content or posts, including Reels and Explore on Instagram.
However, Mosseri did not specify how Meta would determine what would be considered “political content.” However, a Meta spokesperson said this would include election-related issues and social issues.
“Our definition of political content is content that deals with government or election-related issues; for example, posts about laws, elections or social issues. These global challenges are complex and dynamic; This means this definition will evolve as we continue to work with the people and communities who use our platforms and external experts to improve our approach,” a Meta spokesperson said.
As Ukrinform reported, Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads, said it plans to flag all images created using artificial intelligence (AI) on social media platforms.
