“There was a strong flare on the Sun, and the peak of this flare occurred on February 9, 2024 at 15:14 (Kiev time). NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory probe, which constantly observes the Sun, took the photo,” he said.
Flares on the Sun are powerful emissions of energy.
Flares and solar flares can affect radio communications, power grids, navigation signals, and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.
This solar flare is classified as an X3.3 explosion; where “X” represents the most powerful explosions, while the number gives more information about its power.
As Ukrinform reports, on December 24, 2024, the NASA Parker Solar Probe mission will fly just 6.1 million kilometers from the “surface” of the Sun, which will be the closest approach to the star in history.
