China is building the world’s first large spectroscopic telescope to detect exoplanets; This telescope should be operational and start scientific research in 2026.

The latest device for observing space objects was developed at Shanghai Jiaotong State Research University, Ukrinform reported with reference to CGTN.

The telescope is called JUST (Jiaotong University Spectroscopic Telescope) and will be built on Saishiten Mountain in Qinghai Province in northwestern China, where an area for astronomical observations already exists.

It is assumed that the telescope will have an aperture of 4.4 meters, which will make it possible to quickly switch between target sources in different areas of space and carry out spectral observations in a timely manner.

According to the developers, the new telescope’s high-precision spectrometer will enable simultaneous multi-purpose and high-precision spectral observation, making it the first of its kind in the world.

Scientists expect to achieve a number of groundbreaking research results in various fields, including time domain astronomy and the detection and study of exoplanets.

The developers are confident that their device will remain the most important spectral telescope in China for a long time.

As reported by Ukrinform, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA published a photo of a strong flare on the Sun.
