Fortinet has announced the FortiGate Rugged 70G with 5G Dual Modem, a compact and rugged device designed for operational technology (OT) environments.

The FortiGate Rugged 70G with 5G Dual Modem provides security and 5G connectivity specifically designed for use in demanding and remote locations.

The new Fortinet device is equipped with the fifth generation Fortinet Security Processing Unit (SP5), which according to the manufacturer is intended to ensure better network performance and security. The device is specifically designed for use in harsh environments and supports a range of applications, such as fully functional remote ATMs in the banking sector.

The FortiGate Rugged 70G features a 5G dual modem, AI-powered security and zero trust features. It is designed for use in the most demanding environments, enabling users to have a secure and simplified infrastructure as well as improved business efficiency and cost savings.

“What sets this apart in the market is the convergence of all of these features into a small form factor,” said Rami Rammaha, secure SD-WAN director of product marketing at Fortinet. “This makes it easier for customers to manage their network. And with dual active-active connections, customers can take advantage of powerful 5G and benefit from high availability and redundancy.”

The main advantages of the FortiGate Rugged 70G with 5G Dual Modem are:

  • A 5G dual modem that enables seamless, reliable and fast communication to ensure high availability and improved connectivity for critical applications.
  • Fifth generation Fortinet Security Processing Unit (SP5), including 8 Gbps firewall throughput and 7 Gbps IPSec VPN throughput.
  • Compact form factor with a fanless, rugged design that can withstand harsh environments such as extreme temperatures, humidity, shock and vibration.
  • AI security through FortiGuard’s AI-powered security services to protect critical data from advanced threats.

Last month, Fortinet released new access points and switches tailored for WiFi 7. More information can be found here.
