If you like “hybrids”, pay attention to the MINISFORUM V3, a device that is advertised as “the first 3 in 1 with AMD on the market”. We liked it when we saw its previous announcement at CES, and now the Chinese brand specializing in Mini-PCs has opened a website with full specifications.
MINISFORUM V3 mounts the screen 14 inch IPS diagonal. It’s not an OLED that will raise the price, but its features are not bad at all, starting with a native resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels for a 16:10 aspect ratio. The panel is multi-touch with support for MPP 2.0 styluses and 4096 levels of pressure. It supports 100% of the P3 color gamut, its maximum brightness is 500 nits and its variable refresh rate reaches 165 Hz.
Perhaps the biggest innovation is the “Hawk Point” APU that is fitted. It goes o.a Ryzen 7 8840U with 8 cores and 16 threads, a maximum frequency of more than 5 GHz and integrated Radeon 780M graphics with 12 RDNA 3 computing units. Its TDP will be 28 watts and they will debut with the XDNA engine, which will enable better AI capabilities and help keep AMD competitive with NPU/ VPU of the latest Intel processors. The manufacturer will offer memory options of up to 32 GB LPDDR5 and M.2 SSDs up to 2 TB.
Finish in connectivity with support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless standards, new USB4, SD memory card reader, four speakers and headphone output. It has a dual camera system, 5MP rear with autofocus and 2MP front with IR and Windows Hello compatibility for authentication tasks.
Another connector worth highlighting, which allows to increase its versatility of use, is the USB Type-C port, which inside acts as VLink support (under Display Port) that can be used to convert this device into a monitor for connecting mobile devices or consoles, or a dual-screen system for connecting a laptop. Speaking of laptops, let’s just say this one can double as one thanks to the detachable backlit keyboard that comes with the tablet and complements the 3-in-1 functionality.
Of course, there are also the usual tablet sensors and a fingerprint sensor on the launch button. Its chassis is premium made and magnesium alloy and includes a 51 Wh battery for a weight that should not exceed one kilogram. It will be available with Windows 11 pre-installed in March 2024. We like this MINISFORUM V3, although we will have to wait for the final price to evaluate it against devices like Microsoft’s Surface.
