SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on his Twitter page that Starlink has been approved to provide high-speed, low-lane Internet access with very little latency in Nigeria and Mozambique. With the addition of Nigeria and Mozambique, Starlink now operates on all continents in 32 countries where it has obtained the necessary licenses to provide online services.

In May 2021, SpaceX negotiated with Nigerian telecommunications regulators, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), to ensure the process of obtaining all necessary licenses to deliver Starlink satellite broadband to Nigeria.

According to NCC, Starlinks is an international gateway license and Starlink Internet Services Nigeria Ltd. received two licenses as a result of an Internet Service Provider (ISP) license to operate under the name NCC also confirms that the license will go into effect in May 2022. The international gateway license will be valid for ten years, the ISP’s license – for five years and may be valid upon expiration of the contract.

Starlink is best suited for low to medium density areas. It can also provide Internet access in areas where broadband is unreliable or unavailable. However, the availability of services for the development of African countries has been questioned. The satellite broadband offer includes a one-month subscription of $110 and $600 for a complete Starlink kit, which most people in Nigeria and Mozambique can’t afford. Source
